Pomme De Terre Shrine Club was chartered by Abou Ben Adhem Temple on July 24, 1980 with 76 members signing the original document. The club met in local business in Pittsburg Mo until 1990 at which time the members built the Shrine Club on its current location.
Shriners strive to support the "World's Greatest Philanthropy" which is the Shriners Hospitals for Children. This a network of 22 non-profit hospitals across North America. Children with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients' ability to pay. There is no requirement for religion, race, or relationship to a Shriner. Patients must be under the age of 18 and treatable.
Locally, the Pomme De Terre Shrine Club, currently has 16 children who are being treated at a Shriners Hospital for Children. Events such as the Annual Easter Egg Hunt are examples of Shriners wanting to give back to the children of Hickory County. Fundraisers are held monthly for the benefit of the Pomme De Terre Shrine Club which then in turn can provide and ensure that parents/children in need can be given the necessary assistance to the greatest extent possible.
